Frequently Asked Questions

Will there be more Kara Gillian books?

Yes! Book 9, Rise of the Demon will be forthcoming.

How many Kara Gillian books will there be?

Nine books. The final volume is Rise of the Demon. But there may also be some novellas and short stories in the future.

How the heck do you pronounce Rhyzkahl, Szerain, and Mzatal?

Rhyzkahl rhymes with "PLEASE call"! (And yes, I'm kicking myself for not actually writing that into the first book.) Szerain rhymes with "hair MANE". And Mzatal doesn't rhyme with anything. Try mah-ZAH-tul. If you think of a rhyme for it, let me know!

There are a lot of names and demon words in the Kara Gillian books. How do you keep them all straight?

Easy for me--most of the time--because I have to know the characters and their world really well in order to make them come to life on the page. What you see in the books is only the tip of the iceberg. :-)

However, I totally understand the problem of keeping everything straight. To help with this, I've included a glossary at the back of the recent books as well as online. Click on the "Demons" link above.

What about Angel Crawford?

Angel has carved out her place in the zombie world for six books. Beyond that, I don't know at this point. Book 6, White Trash Zombie Unchained is the latest release (September 2017).

Do you reply to fanmail?

I try! I appreciate it SO MUCH when readers take the time to let me know how they feel about my books. (Er, I'll confess that I appreciate it more when it's of the "I loved it!" variety rather than the "Your books suck!" variety..LOL) I really do try to respond to all fanmail I receive, but, that being said, there are times when I get hideously bogged down and fall behind. (Now is one of those times! Ulp!) I'm starting to get caught up, but if you sent me something months ago and never received a response, please know that I didn't purposefully blow you off.

I have a neat idea for what you could do with your characters in a future book. Can I send it to you?

Yikes! No! Seriously.. just... no. Trust me, I'm head over heels in love with the fact that some of you have become so invested in these characters. But sending me ideas, or fanfic, or anything else of the sort puts me in a really uncomfortable and sticky position that I'd prefer to avoid. I know things about my characters that no one else does, so you're going to have a tough time coming up with scenarios that I haven't already thought of that remain true to their backstory.Plus, to be horrid and blunt, the last thing I need is someone claiming that I stole their idea. I'm sorry, and you would probably never even dream of doing that, but we live in an entitled and litiginous world, and there are crazy mofos out there!

I'm a writer trying to improve/break in/find a critique partner. May I send you some of my work so that you can give me feedback?

Again, no, for the reasons I stated above, and for one more big reason: I'm obscenely busy! I have a few very skilled and trusted critique partners who will read my work and give me feedback, and who then expect me to reciprocate by reading and critiquing their work. I can barely keep up with this, so adding any more to my workload is a no-go. Basically, if you send me a manuscript or any sort of attachment, I'll delete it unread. :-(
