In my defense, my life has not exactly been uneventful lately. Amazingly, I still seem to have a few faithful (insanely persistent?) people who check this blog on a semi-regular basis, despite well over a month of having no posts.
The comment spam here has become an incredible problem that I’m just not sure what to do about. None of it shows up on the blog itself since I have it set that only people who’ve been previously approved can actually post, but that still means that I have to slog through 50-60 comments held for moderation a day to try and see if any “real” comments have been posted. I just don’t have the time to do that AND write a post. And if I miss a day of moderating comments? Well then I’m faced with several hundred spam posts to wade through. I honestly don’t know what to do about it. I really like having the comment feature, but it’s just too much damn work with all of the spam. After my month+ hiatus, I looked at my moderation list and discovered that there were nearly 1500 “comments” being held for moderation. I deleted them all, so if anyone actually posted any real comments, they got tossed.
The whole thing really kinda ticks me off, and makes me wonder if having this blog on this site is going to work in the long run. I don’t want this to be so damn high-maintenance. If anyone has any suggestions, I’m open to them. I guess for now I’m just going to tell people to email me when they post a comment for the first time so I can set them in the “approved” category.
I’ve moved over from Journalscape and I’ve got you bookmarked here, so I’ll check.
Need material? How ’bout an update on the little one?
Also, some of the blog sites have the word verification thingy, I don’t know how difficult it is to add that to it. Sounds very frustrating, I’m sorry it is so.
