They showed Jesse Jackson–standing still in the middle of a bunch of cheering, shouting, ecstatic people–with tears streaming down his face.

I think those of us blessed (or cursed?) with a speculative fiction slant on the world were probably better able than most to “see” the alternate futures before us.
The good news is that, this time, a candidate stepped up who was able to articulate his vision so clearly that even those less speculatively inclined were able to see the brighter road.
And I agree with you about his opponent. The Old McCain stepped up to the microphone last night. It was nice to see him back.
